A Course On WTO Rules On Trade In Services
A three-day course entitled WTO Rules on Trade in Services: An In-Depth Course on GATS Rules was organized at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law from February 28 to March 2, 2017. The lectures addressed the content and the scope of application of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), the principle of non-discrimination under the GATS, the elements of liberalization of trade in services, the relation between domestic regulations on trade in services and the GATS, as well as the exceptions and exemptions under the GATS. These topics attracted a large audience which included the students from several faculties of the University of Belgrade. See Course Program
The course was taught by Dr. Christian Pitschas, partner at the IDEAS Centre, a Geneva-based organization which provides professional support to candidates for the membership in the World Trade Organization. This support is aimed at capacity-building and empowering the candidate countries to successfully implement the obligations arising from the accession process, as well as from the prospective membership in the WTO. The course was organized within the project of cooperation between the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and the IDEAS Centre, established by a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the representatives of the two institutions in Belgrade in May 2016. The cooperation will resume in other activities aimed at the promotion of the WTO law at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.
