Conference of Japanese and Serbian scientists – Comparative Law, Codifications, Customary Law, and Mixed Legal Systems

On 16 and 17 March 2015, an international conference of Japanese and Serbian scientists entitled “Comparative Law, Codifications, Customary Law, and Mixed Legal Systems” was held at the Faculty of Law. Eight-member delegation of professors from Japan under the direction of Professor Emi Matsumoto visited the faculty on that occasion. The sponsor delegation was the Faculty of Law, Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo. The conference was attended by professors from five prestigious Japanese universities.

The first session held on Monday was dedicated to the codification of the common law, where lectures were given by professors Kasai, Matsumoto and Oka. An important part of this session was devoted on the potential impact of Valtazar Bogišić on the Japanese Civil Code and the parallels between Serbian and Japanese codification. On Monday afternoon, Professor at University of Belgrade Faculty of Philology, Kameda gave a lecture. On Tuesday, the presentation on civil law was given by professors Ogava and Tamari, while professors Ojama and Pejović were presenting their papers on labor law.

The conference was attended by a large number of professors and students of University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, as well as by guests from other local scientific institutions.
