The success of our students at the “Condemn Discrimination” competition organized by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, with the support of the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry Foundation – RNIDS, organized this year, for the tenth time, the competition (Mootcourt) “Condemn Discrimination”, open to students of bachelor’s academic and master’s academic studies in law at law faculties in the Republic Serbia. It is a unique competition that is dedicated to the fight against discrimination, with the aim of achieving equality, while the focus of this year’s case was on consideration of previous convicts in terms of previous conviction being the potential ground for discrimination of jobseekers. A total of two teams from our faculty took part in the competition: the team “Jelena Dimitrijević”, which consisted of Elena Jeremić and Anastasija Spasić, students of the fourth year of bachelor’s academic studies, as well as Andrija Jakovljević, a student of the third year of bachelor’s academic studies under the mentorship of Aleksa Nikolić, teaching assistant in Constitutional law, and the team “Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja” which consisted of Petra Radosavljević and Teodora Stevanović, students of the second year of bachelor’s academic studies, under the mentorship of Mina Kuzminac, a junior teaching associate in Labour Law. Both teams successfully passed the written phase of the competition, which involved writing a lawsuit and a response to the lawsuit, and made it to the semifinals, which was held on December 12th in the premises of the University Library “Svetozar Marković” and the premises of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality. All teams had the opportunity to perform twice in the semi-finals, in the role of the plaintiff and the defendant, in front of panels of judges that consisted of judges, representatives of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Serbia, the National Academy of Public Administration, Judicial academie, corporations, as well as the civil sector. The team “Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja” won the third place in the competition, based on a difference of less than one point, while Teodora Stevanović, a member of this team, received a special prize for public speaking. The first place in the competition was won by a team of students from the Faculty of Law of the University of Niš, while the second place was won by a team of students from the Faculty of Law of the University of Novi Sad.
