Within the Horizon Twining call, the Department of Theory, Sociology and Philosophy of Law received support for its project Advancing cooperation on the Foundations of Law

This collaborative project – funded by EU Horizon and Innovate UK at nearly €1,500,000 – combines substantive research on foundational issues relating to law, language, logic, and practical reason with a range of efforts to elevate the research- and international grant-bidding capacity of the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade.

The substantive work takes the form of knowledge-exchanges between collaborating research hubs at partner institutions – the Belgrade Center for the Foundations of Law, the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy, the U. of Genoa’s Tarello Institute for Legal Philosophy, and the U. of Lisbon’s Legal Theory Group. The academic team consists of 23 core members total, with Belgrade leading the overall project and Surrey, Genoa, and Lisbon each leading a particular topic of focus (law and practical reason, law and language, and law and logic, respectively).
The project also crucially focuses on efforts that will allow the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade to become an internationally competitive European research institution, by raising its academic research profile and by strengthening its research management and administrative capabilities. To this end, the project provides a thorough and comprehensive three-year transfer of academic and administrative knowledge from three leading European institutions.
