Visit of the United Nations Club to the United Nations Office in Vienna
The United Nations Club of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, after last year’s successful visit to the United Nations Office in Geneva, organized a visit to the second European headquarters of the United Nations in Vienna. The study visit, which took place from April 29th to May 2nd, 2019, consisted of an introduction to the history of the United Nations Office in Vienna and two expert lectures.
An introduction to how the Office was established, as well as its functioning today and the usage of the building in which one of the two European headquarters of the United Nations is located, was made by Ms. Josipa Cvitić, an official of the United Nations Office in Vienna.
The first lecture for our students was held by Mr Niklas Hedman, Chief of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee at the United Nations Office for the Outer of Space Affairs (UNOOSA). The topic of the lecture was “Global Space Governance – Role of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)”.
The second lecture was delivered by Dr Ferid Shannoun, Scientific Officer at the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). The topic of the lecture was “The work of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation”.
The study trip was organized and led by the members of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Club of the Law Faculty of the University of Belgrade, President Sara Petrović and Secretary General Teodora Višnjić, with the support of the professors from the Faculty of Law and the Student Parliament of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.
