On Wednesday, April 24th, the Forum gathered before the holidays to hear the lecture of Prof. Dr Žika Bujuklić “The doctoral dissertation of Laza Kostić: De legibus serbicis Stephani Uros Dusan“. Continuing the story he had previously started on the Forum about the famous poet Laza Kostić as a lawyer, Prof. Bujuklić has described how he got hold of, first, Kostić’s doctoral diploma from the University of Pest – in which it was clearly stated that, besides brief doctoral theses, the poet had also written a dissertation – and then the exam records, where it was stated that the dissertation dealt with the Serbian laws of Stefan Uroš Dušan. Unfortunately, he failed to find the text of the dissertation, since it was never published (unlike the theses, publication of dissertations was not mandatory), so the discussion after the lecture has focused upon the question of whether and where one might, with some luck, find the manuscript of Kostić’s dissertation. It is also worth mentioning that Prof. Bujuklić has, between these two lectures, published a book The Legal Reach of the Poet Laza Kostić (Правнички домети песника Лазе Костића), which has received the Award of the City of Belgrade for 2018.
