Human Rights in the 21st Century

Organized jointly by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) and the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, the international conference titled Human Rights in the 21st Century was held in Belgrade, November 9–10. This conference marked the 70-year anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and brought together more than twenty experts in the field of human rights from all over the world.

The conference began with the opening statements of SASA academicians Vladimir Kostić and Tibor Varady, followed by an exposé by Ben Ferencz, a former prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials. Among the participants were not only professors of the University of Belgrade or representatives of other Serbian institutions, but also professors, judges, barristers and academicians from Germany, Belgium, Turkey, England, Japan, Russia, The Netherlands, Italy, USA, Hungary, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Croatia. A collection of the articles presented here will be published through the collaboration of the SASA and the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.
