New Success of the UN Club Members at MUN Conferences
The delegation of the UN Club of University of Belgrade Faculty of Law has participated for the second time at MUNLaws 2016 conference which connects law students that share common interests in fields of international law, diplomacy and the UN system. MUNLaws conference was held from 20- 23 October 2016 at University of Ljubljana Faculty of Law. Over 120 people from 19 different countries have participated. Our students were Arbitrators of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (Sandra Krstajić and Petar Šeperac) and delegates of the Human Rights Council (Katarina Prica) and Security Council (Uroš Anđelković). They have actively contributed to the trials and debates, wrote the award and resolutions and had an excellent performance at the conference because of their good knowledge in fields of international law, politics and negotiation skills. Milena Nikolić, the President of the UN Club, was the President of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the dispute between China and the Philippines regarding South China Sea. She was taking care of the procedure, lead hearings of the parties and witnesses and presentation of evidence. Together with colleagues Sandra Krstajić and Petar Šeperac, she wrote the award. The topics of the Security Council were ”Lake Chad Basin” and “The Rohang Situation in Mianmar” while the Human Rights Council dealt with the topics “Minority Rights” and “Right to Privacy in the Light of Cyber Attacks”. We are proud to announce that the awards were given to Sandra Krstajić (Best Arbitrator in Permanent Court of Arbitration) and Uroš Anđelković (Honorable Mention in Security Council).
The delegation of the UN Club has participated for the first time at “Students Model United Nations 2016” conference, held from 19–23 October 2016 at Faculty of Political Science of the University of Banja Luka and in the Parliament of the Republic of Srpska. Members of the delegation were Mihailo Marković, Miloš Jovanović, Miloš Mihailović and Nikola Mihajlović. They were delegates of the Security Council, representing politics of the given countries on the topic of security situation in Yemen. During the conference, delegates had an opportunity to attend the lectures held by Danijela Babić, Adviser of the Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union and the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Belgium, H.E. Mr Draško Aćimović. Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska, Mrs. Željka Cvijanović has welcomed students in Government of the Republic of Srpska. She introduced the students to the organization, structure and functioning of the authorities in the Republic of Srpska, legal and constitutional position of the Republic of Srpska within Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dayton Agreement and the challenges Republic of Srpska is facing. Our students made contacts with other participants from Russian Federation, USA, Pakistan, Turkey and the countries of our region.
The delegation of the UN Club has also participated at Zagreb International Model United Nations (ZAGiMUN 2016), organized by United Nations Association of Croatia from 28 November to 1 December. Our delegates, Nenad Vladić and Miloš Rančić dealt with Climate Change issues and inequality between sexes in the Human Rights Council. The sessions were held in the High School of International Relations and Diplomacy “Dag Hammarskjold” and panel discussion with the Ambassadors of Spain and Russia to Croatia, held in the House of Europe, was an opportunity for the participants to hear more about achieving effective climate actions.
The activities of the UN Club of University of Belgrade Faculty of Law will be continued in 2017, hopefully with at least equal success.
