Call for Student Papers for the Special Issue of the Herald of Legal History In memoriam for Professors Dragomir Stojčević and Obrad Stanojević
The Editorial Board of the Herald of Legal History invites undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students of law, as well as students of other social sciences and humanities disciplines, to submit papers for a special issue dedicated to Roman law, published on the occasion of the anniversaries of the deaths of two distinguished figures of Serbian Roman law scholarship—40 years from the death of Prof. Dr Dragomir Stojčević and 15 years from the death of Prof. Dr Obrad Stanojević.
Dragomir Stojčević was a full professor and Dean of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law (1975–1977), the author of the renowned textbook on Roman law, and, together with Ante Romac, the co-editor of the collection of Latin legal maxims Dicta et regulae iuris. He also participated in the establishment and development of the Faculties of Law in Niš, Novi Sad, and Titograd (Podgorica).
Obrad Stanojević was, like his predecessor, a full professor and Dean of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law (1991–1993), as well as a long-standing Head of the Department of Legal History. In addition to his celebrated textbook, he authored several important monographs, including Loan and Interest: A Historical-Comparative Study (1966) and Gaius Noster: A Contribution to the History of Roman Jurisprudence (1976), and prepared the text, translation, and commentary of Gaius’ Institutes (1982).
Their scholarly work encompassed Roman private law, the history of Roman jurisprudence, legal rhetoric, and legal education. They were particularly instrumental in modernizing the teaching of Roman law in Serbia and in introducing rhetoric into the curriculum of the Faculty of Law. They were also founders of the Forum Romanum, a club devoted to Roman law and legal history, and served for many years as its presidents.
The development of Roman law scholarship in Serbia during the second half of the twentieth century is inseparable from the scholarly and pedagogical work of these eminent professors. Through this special issue, the Editorial Board wishes to honour their lasting academic legacy and to encourage new generations of researchers to continue studying Roman law and its reception.
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished papers dealing, among other topics, with:
- Roman private and public law;

- Roman law in Serbian legal culture;
- Roman law scholarship in Serbia;
- the scholarly work of Obrad Stanojević and Dragomir Stojčević.
Papers may be written in Serbian or English, in accordance with the Author Guidelines of the Herald of Legal History.

All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer-review process in accordance with the editorial policy of the journal.
