Visit and lecture of Prof. Dr Alexander Nikolaevich Vylegzhanin from MGIMO University

On Friday, the 5th of November, 2021, Prof. Dr  Alexander Nikolaevich Vylegzhanin, Head of the Department of International Law at MGIMO University and Vice-President of the Russian Association for International Law, visited the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law. The distinguished professor from Russia was welcomed by the Prof. Dr Zoran Mirković, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Ass. Prof. Dr Nina Kršljanin, Vice-Dean for Scientific and Professional Work, representatives of the Department of International Law and International Relations, Head of the Department, Prof. Dr Branko Rakić and Prof. Dr Bojana Čučković, and Dr Ivana Rodić, who is in charge of international cooperation.
Prof. Vylegzhanin expressed an interest of the International Law Faculty of MGIMO University to create and implement a joint master’s programme in English in the field of International Law, with the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, which would be attended by students from partner universities. A successful working meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, with numerous proposals concerning the future master’s program, as well as a potential specialist course.
After the meeting, Prof. Vylegzhanin held a lecture in the Conference room of the Faculty of Law on “Current Problems of International Law”, which law students of the University of Belgrade had the opportunity to follow both in person (respecting epidemic measures), as well as online. The lecture was dedicated to various current aspects of International Law – from respecting the United Nations Charter and the inadmissibility of interference by certain states in the internal affairs of other sovereign states, to Environmental Law and the potential for the use of renewable energy sources. At the end of a long and interesting discussion with students which followed the lecture, Prof. Vylegzhanin expressed his hope that our cooperation will be intensified in the future.
