Scientific Conference “Živojin M. Perić: Character and Work” held

Co-organized by the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), a scientific conference dedicated to the persona and work of Živojin M. Perić was held on the 5th and 6th of December 2019. This conference was the crowning event in a series which was started last year, marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Živojin Perić (1868-1953), who taught at our Faculty for many years; he was also a corresponding member of the Serbian Royal Academy (which was later to become the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts). Within the celebration of this anniversary, the Bibliography of Živojin M. Perić with a Chronology of his Life and Work (Bibliografija Živojina M. Perića sa hronologijom života i rada), by Dobrilo Aranitović and Jovica Trkulja, was previously published, and a permanent exhibition organized at the lecture hall No. 3, which bears his name.

At the opening ceremony, the attendees were greeted by the president of the SASA, academic Vladimir Kostić, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr Zoran Mirković, and the president of the organizational committee, Prof. Dr Marija Draškić.

The conference was divided into five sessions. The first two were dedicated to Živojin Perić’s contribution to the field of civil law; out of these two, the first dealt with different subjects pertaining to civil law, and the other one entirely with the law of obligations. The third session was dedicated to his theoretical thought, the fourth to his works on international law and federalism, while the fifth session delved into Perić’s life and the interests he had which were not so prominent in his work. The conference gathered over twenty participants from Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, out of which many belonged to the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law. There were many experts and students in the audience, along with two members of the Perić family.

There was also a premiere at the conference; the documentary “Živojin Perić: a Professor Ahead of his Time” (“Živojin Perić: profesor mimo vremena”), directed by Nikola Avramov, and produced by the Faculty of Law within the celebration of the anniversary, was shown for the first time. Our teachers participated as guests and consultants in the making of this film, which will allow a wider public to become acquainted with the life and work of professor Perić.
